This past weekend the 19th Annual Hamptons International Film Festival was held in East Hampton from Thursday, October 13 through Monday, October 17, where film goers all got a taste of France as they celebrated film with CIROC Ultra Premium Vodka.

CIROC was the official sponsor and spirit of choice at the festivals screenings, they provided cocktails the entire week with their signature drinks made especially for the festival.

In addition, Ciroc also presented the Conversation With Series, a moderated live conversation with actors and the public. Matthew Broderick, Alec Baldwin, Susan Sarandon, Bob Balaban, and Rufus Wainwright were the actors that participated in the three series event

1st Annual MamaGlow Film Festival Kicks Off...

On Saturday evening,August 20th, Sag Harbor's WellNEST hosted the 1^stannual MAMA GLOW Film Festival raising funds for Every Mother Counts. The evening began with Tender Shoots Wellness Founder Latham Thomas and WellNEST Co-Founder Rachel Paletsky introducing the festivals first film,Christy Turlington-Burns’ No Woman, No Cry, by. 

With more than 500,000 women dying each year during childbirth (90 percent of which are preventable deaths) this powerful film shares the stories of at-risk pregnant women in four parts of the world, including a remote Maasai tribe in Tanzania, a slum of Bangladesh, a post-abortion care ward in Guatemala, and a prenatal clinic in the United States.

The second film, Madame Tizo by David Belle, was introduced by Supermodel & Founder of Women’s Coalition for Empowerment and Opportunity Selita Ebanks.  This inspiring story of a 100 year old Haitian midwife/leaf doctor known as “Ms. Little Bones” in the town of Jacmel. The portrait of Madame Tizo is one of the rare matriarchs who embraces tradition and whose great influence resonates throughout her community.

The films were followed by a panel discussion moderated by Niche Media’s Haley Binn with the panel including Latham Thomas, Rebecca Minkoff, Drena DeNiro, Tata Harper & Denise Albert- NBC Moms & The City.  Centering their talks around not only the problems that woman all over the world face, but ways each & every one of us can help, the woman ended the evening on a positive note.

HAMPTONS WEEKEND REPORT: Evidence A Dance Company Presents its 8th Annual on OurToes

On Saturday,August 20th Evidence a Dance Company presented its 8th Annual On Our Toes, the most anticipated African-American cultural event of the season. The vast grounds of Bridgehampton's Hayground School served as an ideal locale for the 4 hour spectacular.

Chaired by Dr. Ancy Verdier, this year's event honored Jon Snow and Lola C. West and opened with an elegant cocktail reception and red-carpet fpr VIPs. Attendees enjoyed expert cooking by 5 and Diamond Executive Chef David Martinez. The Central Harlem newcomer offered scrumptious hors d' ouveres as the spirits flowed.  Enjoying the intial reception were early arrivals Reginald Van Lee, Andrea Hoffman, Larry Satterfield, among others. Also, early to arrive and take to the red carpet were the Evidence Dancers: Walldean Nelson, Lilli Anne Tai, Arcelle Cabuag, Clarice Young, and Annique     Roberts along with Evidence Founder& Artistic Director Ronald K. Brown.  Rounding out the experience were Actress Tamara Tunie of Law & Order SUV fame and husband Jazz Vocalist Gregory Generet.

Immediately following the reception various awards were given out by the evening's Mistress of Ceremonies and the Board of Directors Vice President Gail Monroe-Perry. Highlights included: award presented to artist, educator, and activist Jon Snow;award to co-Founder of the Hayground School and Lola C. West;  Ronald K. Brown and Dancers performance of Ife my Heart--a piece originally commissioned and performed by the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater in 2005.

The evening concluded with the vibrant crowd of attendees and loyal supports enjoying cocktails and dessert while dancing the night away. Special mention goes to 5 and Diamond Restaurant Owners, Lia San Filippo and Selene Martinez who were present throughout. HAMPTONS WEEKEND REPORT: Get Wild--The Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center Celebrates!

As oceanside benefits are all the rage, The Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center, an East End organization known for rescuing and rehabilitating the region's injured native wildlife, added excitement to this year’s Hamptons season with its very own Summer 2011 Benefit, Get Wild! 

Held at the waterfront estate of Leslie Alexander and Liz Brown in Southampton the event, chaired by Beth Ostrosky Stern, Avis Richards, and Marcy Warren, honored the late Evelyn Alexander as well as celebrated the rehabilitation of thousands of Long Island’s wildlife.  VIPs in attendance included: Beth Ostrosky and Howard Stern, Ellen and Chuck Scarborough, Marcy and Michael Warren, Avis and Bruce Richards, Celia and Tim Cunningham, Ellen and Jan Linhart DDS, Tara Allmen M.D., Joni and Chirstopher Fischer and Socialite Jean Shafiroff.

Friends, family and guests came together to hear host Leslie Alexander thanked everyone for their attendance and explained how happy his mother, the late Evelyn Alexander, would be for the growth of community involvement within the organization.  Founder of the Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center, Ginnie Frati, also thanked guests for their generous support and donations to the center and how they will benefit the animals in need. She shared, “We can better maintain our medical equipment, get the best veterinary care, and gather skills and training to increase our success rate. We are able to offer state-of-the-art care to our wild neighbors that so richly deserve it because they are usually injured by human activities.”

For the true animal lover, the event featured live rescued animals secured by animal
 handlers. Available to view were turtles, an owl and a beautil red-tailed hawk.  Guests quelled their appetites with gourmet hors d’oeuvres and cocktails from Mayan Woods Catering, and also enjoyed a well-crafted silent auction featuring exclusive items such as: a two night stay at Distinctive Resort and Residences at the Panoramic View with dinner at 75 Main, an overnight stay at Southampton Inn, an European facial at Alma G Salon & Spa, and much more.***

Art for Life 2011-The Zen of Giving...an Insider's View

East Hampton  July 30, 2011.  It was a pleasure to serve on Rush Philanthropic's 12th Annual Benefit Committee.  This was my 4th time in attendance and I must say, the best Art for Life benefit yet. Then again, each year that I attend I say the same thing.  It just keeps getting bigger and better.  More importantly, it is a very well done benefit for a very well deserving cause.  We are helping our youth who hold the future in their hands.  President Obama sent a letter that was read at the event stressing that Art for Life is helping to empower our youth.

 

Russell Simmons, Danny Simmons, Joseph "Rev. Run", Javier Evans, Tangie Murray and the entire Board of Directors should be commended for a job well done.  With over 900 people in attendance and a Buddhist color theme for peace and harmony the event was a tremendous success.  Host Soledad O'Brien and Chairman and Co-founder Russell Simmons announced that $1,000,000 was raised before the doors to the tent opened! 

Honorees included Mary J. Blige, Kimberly B. Davis, Dr. Oz Garcia, Tamara Mellon, OBE and Ed Norton.  Guests were treated to performances by Jennifer Hudson, Miri Ben Ari and Lior Suchard with Star Jones as auctioneer. 

It is always amazing for me to see an event come to its fruition.  I'm often sad to see an event end and rewarded to know that it was a success. The evening was wonderful.  My thanks to Barry Klarberg for inviting me to be on the committee. One of my surprises came when dear friends James and Manuela Goren attended Art for Life after receiving the invitation.  We'd been trying to get together for months and there they were, coming out for a great cause and wanting to be involved. The good news is that the evening is not over, everyone can still participate by biding on the auction until August 10th on Charity Buzz.  So what are you waiting for? Hurry and get your bids in on a meet and greet with Justin Timberlake, Alec Baldwin, Gweneth Paltrow, Gayle King or perhaps art or a trip .....

HAMPTONS WEEKEND REPORT: Art for Life 2011-The Zen of Giving

On Saturday, July 30^th celebs gathered at Russell Simmons’ East Hampton estate for the 12th Annual Art for Life Benefit, sponsored by Bombay Sapphire Gin.

 Host Soledad O’Brien welcomed guests such as Edward Norton, Mary J. Blige, Taraji P. Henson, Lala Anthony, Tamara Mellon, Vanessa and Angela Simmons, Rev Run, Star Jones, Lisa Rinna, Kimora Lee Simmons and Djimon Hounsou, Brett Ratner, Dr. Oz, LA Reid, Jennifer Esposito and Gayle King enjoyed a performance by Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson, whose rendition of the Dreamgirls classic “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” brought the crowd to its feet. 

Ed Norton was seen enjoying Bombay Sapphire French 75s and the Simmons sisters ordered Bombay Sapphire Masterpiece cocktails. Celebs like Taraji P. Henson and Mary J. Blige swayed in their seats to the soulful sounds of DJ M.O.S.  Henson was even giving Blige a friendly run for her money, proudly singing the lyrics to nearly every song.  Lisa Rinna and Dr. Oz checked out the auction items, which included while Lala Anthony sang along to the Mary J. Blige favorite “Real Love”.

 The evening was a true success again this year.  Art for Life 2011 the Zen of Giving  Auction items are available for bidding on the ever popular Charity Buzz. This year's items ranged from from a private lunch in New York City with Gayle King, Editor-in-Chief of O, The Oprah Magazine to 2 VIP tickets to see 50 Cent LIVE  at the concert of your choice PLUS a Meet & Greet.

HAMPTONS WEEKEND REPORT: ACRIA's Cocktails at Sunset

Supporting the Aids Community Research Initiative of America each summer has become a rite of passage for the  East-End fashionist(er) with a heart of gold. This summer's ACRIA Cocktails at Sunset was no exception.  Attendees arriving through the torch lined entrance were greeted with flutes of Veuve Clicquot as they made their way to Steven Klein's West Kill Farm estate in Bridgehampton.  Mr. Klein, the famed photographer, with the help of a stellar Benefit Committee,*** rallied hundreds of attendees to support the cause.  ACRIA's overall mission is to bring an activists approach to the study of new treatments for HIV and AIDS. Since its inception in 1991,**** the have contributed to the development of more than a dozen medications that have received FDA approval, helping countless thousands of HIV-positive people live longer healthier lives.

This evening, a large tent offered an ample dance floor headed by celeb DJ trio the Missshapes.  Music blared while photographers from Patrick McMullan and WWD circulated.  Spotted were the likes of Kelly Klein, Calvin Klein, Rachel Zoe and husband Rodger Berman, Nacho Figueras and wife Delfina Balquier, Robert Verdi, Lauren Ezersky and husband Warren Schultz and so on.  A veritable who's who of the top men's and women's fashion journals and art world luminaries rounded out the remainder of the crowd.

The evening's big draw? the silent auction offering select items donated by Barabara Kruger, Christopher Makos, Dan Colen, Elizabeth Peyto, Jeff Koons, Jim Dine, Massimo Vitali, Rob Wynne, Rpbert Longo, Candida Hofer, Donald Sultan, Herb Ritts, James Rosenquist, John Baldessari, Paul Solberg, Ryan McGinley, and Ross Bleckner and others.
