Hi!
As there is not much time left to the precious Summer of 2008, we were thrilled to spend this past weekend with the one and only Larry Zarsky***, affectionately known as Larry Z. Our official day began with a pickup in East Hampton, and a ride to Two Tree Farms, Bridgehampton for the final week of the Mercedes Benz Polo Challenge. Larry Z & wife Patricia Zarsky (see photo at left) were of course VIPS, and we were on the press list. A quick visit to the T-Mobile Sidekick Lounge meant a bit of picture taking of the ladies, courtesy of PMC, and a few minutes speaking to DJ Nick Cohen under the tent. Soon after we charted out our course through the maze of attendees, we spent much of our time with Larry Z's friend, film Producer Greg O'Connor of Solaris Entertainment; this was a pretty BIG DEAL. Larry Z and partner Bob Levin via Bola Productions is working with Mr. O'Connor on several exciting movie projects.
Later we met up with several important people (nothing but at this Week 6 of the matches). Marvel Comics President Paul Gitter was there, as was Greek Business Tycoon Michael Zacharias. Yes, Larry Z's Icon Partners is in negotiations with Paul Gitter and Marvel to represent some of their properties--is there ANYONE Larry Z did not know? Apparently not! We even met up with Caribbean Artist Jeffery Dread who was also there taking in the matches. We soaked up the final moments of polo for the summer, circulating the grounds and speaking with friends. As the sun set, and things winded down, the usual 6:00 pm end extended well beyond that. Those that remained were treated to a performance by the late 80's Brit Songstress HRS Princess who sang her former hit Say I'm Your Number One.
Following the matches it was off to an artist reception in East Hampton, at our invite. Larry Z and Patricia, our gracious hosts, whisked us away to view the large scale works of artist Justin Love. Immediately following was dinner at the rustic Italian restaurant Sam's, just a few doors down from the reception. Upon entry we ran into actors Marina McCreery and Howard Parke. Short on time, we were served warmly and quickly due to the fact that Larry Z and Patricia are Sam's regulars. After a large Caesar salad and pizza with virtually everything on it, the night was complete-- well almost.
The final stop was Save the Eggs Hope Uncorked in
Southampton which meant a 20 minute ride west on one of the most popular night's of the week. There we met still more friends who invited us to a private party where 70's soul band Earth, Wind, & Fire was performing, a party that EVERYONE and their bother seemed to know about, as well as to Kobe Beach Club--one of this summer's HOTTEST East Hampton destinations--never did get the skinny on the event there. Needless to say the evening ended at near midnight despite Larry Z's insistence on a few rounds of karaoke at Almondcello (formerly Almondito), another place where our hosts are regulars. Our group was exhausted, so suffice to say our final destination was Larry Z's lovely East Hampton home in the woods--a modern bi-level complete with pool and deck. After a quick tour of the nautical inspired decor (expertly designed by Patricia) everyone retired to bed. The night REALLY was complete!
