One week go today, we found ourselves in the very fast paced yet pleasantly accessible part of New York City known as Midtown East. A quick stop to view the wares of a Friends and Family Sample Sale of Malaysian born, Designer Zang Toi is what we anticipated that morning. What we arrived to was the glossy NEW showroom of Mr. Toi complete with a noteworthy receiving room, a sizeable viewing room with side dressing room, general offices, and a design/sewing room.
Bright lights, floor to ceiling mirrored walls, a black lacquer banquet style table with a stack of the latest lifestyle magazine bearing Mr. Toi's image on its cover, greeted us (see initial photo above). We were then shown a lovely sun drenched viewing room surrounded by terraces, with a view of the nearby Burberry building to the north. A single marble table for working or sitting with clients occupied the center of the room (see second photo) while a few racks of Zang Toi originals hanged in each corner of the room. The side dressing room, no doubt wear models or clients can try on various pieces, contained a finely made bed bearing custom linens with delicate pillows bearing Mr. Toi's logo of course (see photo below).
Come this Fashion Week, Mr. Toi's gorgeous new showroom, which is now just two months old, will be transformed for his super hush-hush Spring 2014 after party. The evening, said to be a sumptuous cocktail party, will have only his best clients, dearest friends and select press.
