Inaugural Balls abound in Washington DC and there were no shortage of celebs making the rounds in support of worthy causes during this inaugural year. The Hip-Hop Inaugural Ball II, a ball which celebrates the re-election of President Barack Obama, honored mega recording artist John Legend and hip-hop's latest burgeoning force 2 Chainz at Washington DC 's Harmon Center for the Arts.  The Sunday, January 20th event gave lifetime achievement awards  to MC Lyte and Doug E. Fresh.  The event was sponsored by Philanthropik and Russell Simmon's Hip-Hop Summit Artist Network. 

The red carpet welcomed celebs that included: Rosario Dawson, Wayne Brady, Lance Gross, Angela Simmons, Chrissy Teigen, LaLa Anthony, Terrence J, Marsha Ambrosius and more.

Roscoe Dash & Vibe Magazine Host the J.U.I.C.E. Holiday Party

Tuesday night, Roscoe Dash and Vibe Magazine started the holidays off right with the J.U.I.C.E holiday party at Goldbar in New York. The Music Line/Geffen recording artist celebrated the release of his debut EP, J.U.I.C.E (Just Understand I Control Everything), by performing his hit singles "Good Good Night" and "Siddity" to a packed house and collecting canned goods and toys for a local charity in Atlanta. J.U.I.C.E is in stores now and available on iTunes.

The MTV breakout nominee is also in the running for "People's Choice" artist in XXL's Freshman Class issue. Click here to vote for Roscoe.

Pharrell's N.E.R.D. Closes Out Coors Light 'Search for the Coldest'

Music superstar Pharrell Williams’ group N.E.R.D. performed on Saturday at the House of Blues in New Orleans as the Coors Light Search for the Coldest hip hop competition came to a conclusion. The event took place during the Essence Music Festival. The show was opened by PyInfamous, who bested more than 3,000 MCs to take the “Coldest” title.

 Coors Light^® named PyInfamous, also known as Jason Thompson of Jackson, Miss. the official winner of the 2011 Coors Light Search for the Coldest national MC competition. PyInfamous opened for Pac Div and N.E.R.D. at the national tour’s final stop, an invitation-only event held July 2 at the New Orleans House of Blues. MarilynMusic Releases "IMA B A CELEBRITY"

Songwriting, production and publishing company MarilynMusic announced the release of their latest single "IMA B A CELEBRITY" on iTunes and Amazon, as well as video release on YouTube. The song and video feature the vocal talents of Wallace Gary, who has worked with such esteemed artists as Ashford & Simpson and Chaka Khan.  Gary is also the vocalist on other upcoming MarilynMusic tracks, including "Jump" and "Calling All Girls".

An homage to the Black Eyed Peas, the song spoofs the lavish lifestyle of a hip-hop celebrity. With an incredible pop/dance hook, this is a song that will be thumping in the clubs for years to come. MarilynMusic has an incredibly vast range of musical ability, and on this track, they aptly mix blends of hip-hop and dance with a pure understanding of what a pop fusion classic sounds like.

Russell Simmons on Chris Brown-'Give This Man a Break'

Russell Simmons sat with Chris Brown Tuesday night during the celebration dinner for the release of his new album, F.A.M.E. and blogged about the experience exclusively for hip pop news website, GlobalGrind.com.

Simmons told Brown that he “is suffering from the same thing as almost every young star has gone through, including the Disney kids.” Simmons also feels that he and other artists who have made mistakes should not be "paying the price of the sins in their young lives for the rest of their lives.  Again, and again, and again.”  And that if we as a society “…insisted on that there would be no art.”  He suggests that Brown is need of a lifecoach and his “heart and office door are always open to him." Nate Dogg Passes Away

Hello,

Nathaniel Dwayne Hale, the 41 year old Los Angeles based Rapper, best known by his stage name Nate Dogg, has passed away. Hale, who first rose to fame via his affiliation with fellow rappers Snoop Dogg and Warren G. as well as Producer Dr. Dre had reportedly been suffering from health issues the last few years.  Hale was also the founding member of Hip-Hop group 213 and in later years collaborated with everyone from Ludacris to Eminem.

YRB How You Rock It!

YRB Magazine held it’s 3rd annual How You Rock It! fete at the always fun M2 Ultra Lounge.  Oddly for Grubman PR, which usually runs a much tighter PR ship, the evening started on a bit of a down note as the invite said “8pm to 1am”.  Yet guests were left waiting on the sidewalk and rudely pushed around by the bad security staff for a full hour!  But once inside the raucous festivities more than made up for the unexpected wait!  Dubbed as an “adult playground”, there were game consoles, live art murals, and the best party favor ever – FREE TATTOOS!  Inviting the talented artists from the Kings County Tattoo Company of Brooklyn to ink partygoers was a smart and ingenious marketing idea as every guest who is sporting a new tatt will (for better or worse) remember the YRB party as the night they got it.  Getting inked is as intimate as sex, in that you have to feel the artist as a person and trust him to not cause you great pain.  Thus, I was very fortunate to have the wonderful Vito “Tatts”, who has years of experience in the tatt biz.  Calm, efficient, and most importantly, light of hand, Vito is a Zen Master of tattoos!  I am completely delighted with my lovely and pain-free results!  I am definitely going to him for future work and I highly recommend him to everyone looking to get inked! 

Although the invite said food and drinks, the only food provided was hot dogs.  However, Heineken and the specialty Hornitos Tequila cocktails flowed freely.   With hot DJ on the scene, DJ Cassidy and the legendary Funkmaster Flex spinning followed by a performance by Busta Rhymes, the crowd was kept on its dancing feet for hours! Gift bags had a really cool preppy plaid NY hat from New Era.  In addition, there were some ribbed sleeveless tees from Hanes  (some people call them “wife beaters” but as an advocate against domestic violence, I hate that imagery) and of course, a CD with some of Busta’s new tracks.

FIRST LOOK PHOTOS: La Chic Magazine Photo Shoot featuring Kim Osario

On Wednesday, October 8th we had the privilege of visiting the photo shoot of La Chic Magazine's upcoming Latin Grammy Issue.  La Chic Inc., a go-to company for urban music and luxury brands that target African-American and Hispanic consumers, will feature the legendary Hip-Hop Magazine Editor Kim Osario-VP of Content for Global Grind.  Upon our visit to the set, we chatted with La Chic CEO and Founder  Sibrena Stowe Fernandez, who was happily having her makeup and hair done for her own Editor's Page Photo for the same issue.  Racks of clothing were in one area, a table of jewelry was neatly strewn in another.  The photographer and his assistant were busily setting up their background and lighting, while Ms. Osorio changed into a sophisticated black blouse.  La Chic is on the MOVE, recently securing Music World Entertainment as a client, as well as previously booking over 300 commercial ads for recording artist Solange Knowles.  While everyone will have to wait until November to check out the Latin Grammy Issue, a few precious photos appear below.
