A true departure from previous collections, THEIA Spring 2014 is inspired by a Sunday afternoon stroll in April through The Brooklyn Botanical Gardens.
Its majestic Cherry Blossoms and Magnolia trees were in full bloom. Pale pink puffed out clouds of delicate petals set against the dazzling blue sky inspired a journey to Japan.
The Cherry Blossoms became silk prints created from a mixture of my photos, combined with paintings.
The Imperial Seal of Japan, the Chrysanthemum, found on a vintage Kimono is brought in to the 21st century, reproduced on neoprene, or woven in to luscious jacquards,
Giant waves shimmer in deep blue metallic sharkskin, are captured in intricate embroideries, and swirling curved seams where jacquards splash up against sharkskin.
The delicacies of the floral prints are juxtaposed with the clean sharp lines of black and white slashed with red, inspired by Japanese calligraphy.
Standouts include: red duchess satin mermaid gown with hand embroidered glass encrusted neckline; a black white and red color block mermaid gown; a black kimona printed neoprene sweatshirt, black and tangerine crepe slim skirt (shown above)

It was a whirlwind of aFashion Week in New York City, one where the partying almost never ends. A fun find on the downtown scene was the Angela I Am after party which featured the premiere of Recording Artist Nick Hissom's new video, "If I Die Young". The soiree which took place at the Jazz Room at The General on Tuesday, September 11th was hosted by Angela Simmons, Nick Hissom & Gigi Hadid.
Nick Hissom, Jason Binn, Peter Brant Jr.
The evening sponsored by Monster (Headphones), Tinder, and Mia Dolcea Pink Moscato began at 9:00 pm. Many guests cozied up to the bar to enjoy specalty Mia Dolcea Pink Moscato cocktails while others enjoyed resting the Monster Headphones courtesy of the lovely spokes models on hand who demonstrated the product. The real fans, Nick Hissom fans that is, enjoyed the continuous play of Hissom's hot new single by the Jazz Room's stage.
Hissom, a model turned burgeoning recording artist, with an impressive pedigree, drew support from society heavy weights like DuJour Media'sJason Binn and longtime friend, male socialite Peter Brant Jr. Hissom also had carpet time with his co-hosts, Designer Angela Simmons who'd just shown her new Angela.I.Am collection at Style 360 at theMetropolitan Pavilion and the gorgeous Guess Model Gigi Hadid.
The Neo-Romantic rules. Designer Nanette Lepore's Spring 2014 Collection is a fresh, fun and flirty take on Spring...is there any other way? Whether solid or floral print the entire collection is lightweight and carefree and offers a variety that every girl craves for their wardrobe. A mix of shorts, jumpsuits, dresses in varying lengths--it's all here. Embroidered looks be it dress, jacket, or top are noteworthy.
Standouts include: a poppy jumpsuit paired with a leather clutch, an aqua dress, a floral top, floral two piece swimsuit.
Lastly, the music for this show drove us to distraction; it was simply--AMAZING. The Cure's Love Cats and the show's finale paired to the Pixie's La La Love You was brilliant. Kudos to DJ/Producer Scott Mou.
A very early arrival of 5:00 pm, to backstage, meant that we could easily have access to the lovely models prepping to walk the runway. Many models were already having their makeup applied, so the time was right. We spotted a familiar face in Model Lena Ashikhmina, a 26 yr. old beauty represented by Muse Model Management. Lena explained that she had walked for Designer Zang Toi for several season and that she was very happy to once again be part of his show. As luck would have it Lena opened the Spring 2014 show.
