At Balenciaga, Nicolas Ghesquière established himself as fashion’s leading visionary. Now at Louis Vuitton, he is out to prove that he is not only a “scientist,” but a “great classic designer.” Here, accompanied by Juergen Teller’s photographs of his Spring 2015 collection (shot on the grounds of the just-opened Fondation Louis Vuitton), Ghesquière maps his future at the brand: “To me, that was the basic rule at Balenciaga: something unique and elaborate. Louis Vuitton is absolutely global, so my proposition has to be much more straightforward—more direct, less complicated maybe. Of course, it’s at the price of sometimes losing something spectacular. But I did that with a lot of pleasure and a lot of achievement at Balenciaga, so I was ready to move on to another conceptual approach.” Photographs by Juergen Teller; read it here

He was 82. His death was confirmed by his wife, Annette de la Renta. Though ill with cancer intermittently for a decade, Mr. de la Renta was resilient. During that period, his business grew by 50 percent, to $150 million in sales, as his name became linked to celebrity events like the Oscars. Amy Adams, Sarah Jessica Parker and Penélope Cruz were among the stars who wore his dresses. Click here for more.
