It was an exciting night in Soho, on Thursday, October 21st as an eco-friendly art gallery celebrated pureDKNY, the environmentally conscious fragrance from DKNY. The pop-up gallery featured a collection of sustainable designed products and artwork from SHFT.COM, the environmental new media platform founded by activist actor, Adrian Grenier. Together, pureDKNY and SHFT have partnered to convey a more eco-conscious approach to the way we live through art, video, design, fragrance and culture, and now through beauty.
Over specialty Veev cocktails*** the crowd was dazzled by two of New York City's HOTTEST female DJ's--the sultry Sky Nellor upstairs and the sweet as pie DJ Lola. Well on Saturday, October 2nd, the two worlds collide as power couple Mariel Hemingway and Bobby Williams will co-host “Unity in Style,” a charity fashion show and live auction benefiting The Giving Planet, a non-profit that engages young people around the world to share their stories through digital media to foster a new level of cultural understanding. The event will showcase the latest creations of designers EDUN, Jennifer Chun, Robert James, Emily Sinnott, Sucker Jeans, Taashki, Katherine Kim, Anna Lassiter and Lucinda Robinson. “Unity in Style,” which runs from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, takes place at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York City. Actress and UNICEF Ambassador Téa Leoni serves as honorary board chairperson.
Styles on display at the event, which will feature photographs by The Giving Planet teens from Ghana, Kenya and Uganda, will include jewelry by Nancy Melet and silk shawl creations by Suzanne Silk. The Claudia Eliaza Quartet, a jazz ensemble, will provide live entertainment, and guests will enjoy a Ghanaian dance performance. Kiehl’s Since 1851 celebrated Earth Day and the launch of a Limited Edition Collection of Açai Damage Protecting Toning Mist to benefit the Rainforest Alliance with a party in the Kiehl’s Flagship store at 13th St. and 3rd Ave., on April 22nd. The event was hosted by Malia Jones, model, United States Amateur Surfing Championship winner, and collaborator on the Limited Edition Collection, Chris Salgardo, President Kiehl’s USA, and Tensie Whelan, President Rainforest Alliance.
Celebrity DJ Taryn Manning created the party vibe as guests including Parker Posey, Ally Sheedy, Adrienne Bailon, Heather Matarazzo, Shiri Appleby, Tinsley Mortimer, Kelly Bensimon, Kimberly Stolz, Robert Verdi, Phillip Bloch, Richie Rich, KAWS, and Norman Reedus mingled, snacked on Brazilian Açaí Berry-accented treats and cocktails from Van Gogh Vodka, while viewing the Limited Edition Collection and accompanying in-store images shot by David LaChapelle.
In addition, Malia Jones, Jeff Koons, Julianne Moore and Pharrell Williams also partnered with Kiehl’s to create unique Limited Edition labels for Kiehl’s Açai Damage Protecting Toning Mist. A late night fashion show taking place at Chelsea's sizzling Ultra Lounge was quite the coup last Thursday night, April 23rd. Vivons Vert Eco-Fashion show featuring the latest from our friend Designer Christine Marchuska was a rare treat. While the show also featured designs from Elsa & Me by Marga Svensson and Global Ghetto Organics, TONS of supporters came out for Ms. Marchuska. The evening's Svedka sponsored bar kept the crowd on the edge of their seats and the $20 admission meant a portion of the proceeds would go to a much deserved charity, in this case Nature Conservancy. Looks like eco-friendly wear is taking over the world. Endangered Couture has arrived for Spring 2009! A new fashion label devoted to raising awareness of endangered species and supporting environmental organizations such as the World Wildlife Fund. Founded in Toronto, Canada, Tamara Danielle, a graduate from York University decided to put her talents in art and business to work and create a new fashion ideal.
The full line of organic, made in Canada, sweatshop free t-shirts are just the beginning! Slogans such as "I like the way you peck" for the woodpecker and "I'll show my stripes if you show me yours" for the tiger set off the untamed nature of the collection titled "Go Wild!" A portion of the proceeds from each and every shirt go towards the World Wildlife Fund.
Tamara believes that companies should be socially and environmentally proactive. It's about creating something that will continually raise awareness for endangered species and foster high quality sweatshop free apparel across the globe, while supporting organizations that conserve vital ecosystems and bio-diversity.

Saturday Night and Valentine's Day amidst Fashion Week, could there be any more pressure? Therefore, I was absolutely delighted that my inbox was inundated with V-Day invitations. It is a know fact that red is not only le coulour d'amour; it is also my fave color. Yet the only red to be seen on the muted autum gold, burnt orange, sage and steel blue palettes of the runways, is at The Heart Truth Red Dress Collection on the 13th, and on the not so demure Bethenny Frankel at Alvin Valley. So I set out to find a new color- green.
Scanning through my e-vites, I discovered one from our eco-conscious friend Poull Brien, of Way Over Budget Productions, at Greenhouse. This may be an obvious choice to conquer my quest, but then I found myself pondering- can green go red? Not to worry, my globally perplexed friends, this night- The Vegan Queen of Green, is a Queen of Hearts indeed.
Entering the Valentine's Cocktail Reception at 160 Varick, it is visible that the complimentary beverages courtesy of X Rated Fusion, have been flowing- plentifully. The oxford and fitted jeans wearing men and their gussied up counter parts- minus the over indulgent sparkles gracing the front rows of the tents, were all revved up to observe the eco-luxury Vegan Queen goes Green handbag fashion show.
The bag line, dawned on the arms of models, clothed in white t-shirts and jeans, claim to create a "newvision of the masculine meets feminine approach. All materials are premium quality and developed to the highest ecological standards... and timeless silhouettes". I am not so sure about all of that; the bags were various geometrical shapes, with no prevalent color theme.
Yet, we all watched dutifully, and as soon as the red lights washed over the room, the crowd seemed relieved to resume cavorting and knocking 'em back. Although the veganista marriage of Vegan Queen and Greenhouse made perfect sense in theory, it appeared to be ineffectual. Perhaps I had missed something. I needed some clarification.
The statuesque, Blonde, rose-lipped, blue-eyed beauty CEO of Vegan Queen, Evelina Zdunczyk, is proud to boast that most of her models are, in fact, vegans. This is the first thing she tells me. Then in a dreamy tone, Evelina expresses her gratitude to be able to showcase her vegan bags in a cohesive idea of this particular space, with these particular models, on this particular day. "It is all about sharing love, is it not?" With this ideal notion still lingering in the air, Evelina is swept away by her assistant, and I am left wondering if her pin-straight Platinum strands were eco-processed...
As I share my thoughts with my organic wine at the VIP bar downstairs, I overhear a self-proclaimed, unapologetic Bush supporter, Joe, regale the evidently bored, deli coffee sipping, throaty female Bartender, with classic pick-up lines.
You can fall off a building,
you can fall off a tree,
But the best way to fall-
Is in love with me.
And there you have it: It's all about the love in any color, non-toxic or otherwise.
