The 2016 FARE Ball aka the 19th Annual Food Allergy Ball took of without a hitch on Monday, December 5th. It was back to the legendary Waldorf Astoria for a night of honoring true pioneers in the food allergy quest for a cure. The evening began with a cocktail hour where specialty champagne cocktails*** flowed, in one of two receiving rooms, while guests listened to the tunes of the house jazz trio in the entrance of the event's hall. Large group photos of the evening's honorees David and Helen Jaffe and family garnered constant clicking of the cameras.
The evening honored Helen and David Jaffe for their longstanding and commitment to FARE’s mission. The Jaffes' raised four adult children with life-threatening food allergies and have a long history of corporate citizenship and personal philanthropy.
Highlights of the evening included: words from Dinner Co-Chair Karen Mandelbaum to dinner attendees; a message from James Baker MD; a short film on the life changing work of Helen and David Jaffe followed by their award as the evening's honorees; a message from Gala Dinner Co-Chair Lianne Mandelbaum; Restaurater Drew Nieporent awarding Chef Gabriel Kreuther with the Lifetime Achievement Award (presented to an outstanding chef) for his commitment to excellence and compassion for diners with food allergies; Remembrance of various youth who have succumb to food allergies; a slide show the provided the following statistical info about FARE: FARE is the largest private founder of Food Allergy Research, in 2016-2016 alone, FARE invested 9.6 m to support research, in September 2016 FARE renewed its career awards to advance food allergy research, supported 10 clinical trials with over 1,500 patients, saw the conclusion of the leap on Clinical Trial.
Attendees dined on specially prepared meal inspired by Chef Gabriel Kreuther. Grammy and Tony award winning Jazz performer Billy Porter performed classic standards as guests began to enjoy the evening's dessert. As per each wonderful year of the FARE Ball all in attendance for the heartfelt gala were given large gift bags containing a multiple of healthy items from various sponsors.
