New York City's the Plaza was the venue of choice for this year's Casita Maria Center for Arts and Education's “Fiesta 2016”. The affair which began with cocktails promptly at 7:30 pm was followed by a an ornate seated dinner where Marcelo Claure (President and CEO of Sprint Corporation), Joanna Fisher (noted arts philanthropist), and Hutton Wilkinson (interior designer) were presented the the gold Medal of Honor.
Fiesta’s tradition calls for the gala co-chairs Jacqueline Weld Drake and H. R. H. Prince Dimitri of Yugoslavia to be. This year's dancing festivities were, as always, complete with LIVE music by the Bob Hardwick Sound.
Highlights included: Jacqueline Weld Drake's intro to the evening ahead addressing all guests; Philanthropist Joanna Fisher's acceptance of her award and what it means to be part of Casita Maria efforts; Sprint President & Ceo Marcelo Claure accepting his award for his work in bridging the "homework gap" helping kids and their families with the lack of connectivity issue; and more.
Past honorees of the Casita Maria Fiesta have included Santiago Calatrava, Roberto Cavalli, Patricia Cisneros, John Demsey, France Desmarais, Marta and Placido Domingo, Emilia and J. Pepe Fanjul, Carlos Fuentes, Audrey Gruss, Agnes Gund, Audrey Hepburn, Carolina Herrera, JulioIglesias, Hilda Ochoa-Brillembourg, Eddie Palmieri, Rodman C. Rockefeller, Daisy Soros, and Lynn Wyatt.
Guests of the evening enjoyed an appetizer, of Fresh Smoked Salmon Tartar; an entrée, of Grilled Filet Mignon; and a delicious dessert, of Blackout Cake Redux- Chocolate Cremeux and Dulee de Leche Molten Cheesecake.
All departed with a small gift bag containing a token of thanks from Sprint.
