The Hampton Designer Showhouse, a showhouse for America's premier design talent, ushered in another successful year at its Opening Night Gala Preview Cocktail Party. The Gala Preview for the 2016 Hampton Designer Showhouse Presented by Traditional Home*** took place on Saturday, July 23rd at 1597 Noyac Path in Sag Harbor. Proceeds from that evening are set to benefit the Southampton Hospital in Southampton, NY. Renowned Interior Designer Mario Buatta serves as Honorary Chariman with Jamie Drake and Alexa Hampton as the Honorary Design Co-Chairmen.
Since the summer of 2000, the Hampton Designer Showhouse has featured many of the country's elite Interior Designers and Decorators, this year there are 25 in all participating. This summer's ultra-modern residence sits on 3 acres and includes both a swimming pool and tennis court. The home has been generously donated by Bodenchak Design and Build.
Walking through this year's house is a sheer delight. While the barn-style lofty look and feel remain the entire experience is remarkably fresh and innovative. Absent this year is a home theater, a favorite in past showhouses, instead equally as noteworthy, is a an intimate wine cellar on the spacious lower level. The exterior back of the house is as much as a feast for the eyes as the front, with a small rear terrace and covered porch and a separate stair case that goes directly from the back yard to the lower level of the house.
Standouts included: Julie Dodson of Dodson Interiors'*** Bunk Room with its 3 single beds neatly yet lavishly appointed with Pom Pom bedding was each individually complimented by original mirrored wall art by New York City based artist Hunt Slonem; the Center Bedroom by Mikel Welch Designs had a very medieval castle feel w/ ornate wooden headboard, vaulted ceiling (courtesy of Faux Wood Beams) a drk wood 20th Century French Rustic Mountain Chair and modern large scale painting; Lastly Gideon Mendelson of Mendelson Group's Dining Room with its earthy feel from the area rug to the Garrett Leather surrounding the light fixture--complete charm.
