Hi!
Entering the holiday season was never finer, we thought to ourselves, as we attended Moscow 57's final urban salon at M57 Pop Up Cafe, Holiday House. The softly lit cafe filled quite quickly on Tuesday, November 20th to hear the sounds of Ellen Kaye backed by the M57 Band bassist Benjamin Franklin Brown and guitarist Ethan Fein with additional accompaniment by Saxophonist Samuel Brokwski. The Urban Salon's visual art work, of various artists,** played in the background via projector for those seeking paintings or similar works.
While Kaye performed a number of songs, the most riveting may have been a selection by
Bonnie Rait. The crowd, in particular, cheered Kaye on with avid singing and whistles during many tunes distinguishing this final urban salon as a true ' night to remember.' Kaye's fiery personality in perfect compliment to he smooth steady voice was continued delight. Kaye ended her set on an upswing with our personal favorite, the duet of the Cab Calloway classic A Chicken Aint Nothin but a Bird, with longtime friend and business partner Chef Seth Goldman.
Cici James,** a stunning blonde whose beauty might eclipse her music if she were to say a "pop star", immediately followed Kaye. Luckily for us , James is quite an accomplished songstress whose sultry yet sweet voice is saved for melodic slow songs like Chris Isaacs' I Don't Want to Fall in Love or upbeat blues like numbers as in Jace Edwatds' Bad Things.
Alex Carlin',**** followed James seemlessly. Carlin a 'rough and tumble' rocker who happily was not nearly as 'rough and tumble' as he initially appeared, WOWED the listening audience. With acoustic guitar tunes like One Brunette, One Red head, One Blonde and a quick story involving his recent performance with a famed fellow rocker, the legendary Steven Tyler, via a duet in Central Park, Carlin kept things buzzing. His request for vodka was met with a shot that was poured and then consumed in a blink of an eye.
An electric evening was had by all.
Holiday House closes today, November 25th. For more info on Ellen Kaye's and Seth Goldman's Moscow 57 for catering or upcoming performance dates of Kaye or any of the M57 entertainers visit www. Moscow57.com
**-various artists include: Dan Root, Rina Root, Yuka Imata, Leah Mc Closkey, Anne Delaney, Evgenia Fisher, Philippe Bocquet, Leslie Thresher
***-James is scheduled to perform at the Loser's Lounge at Joe's Pub on Dec. 6th, 7th, 8th.
