A rotating presentation ZuZu Kim's Spring 2012 collection styled by Alexa Winner, is a sophisticated, sleek grouping of classic day to evening looks. Concerto, an ideal debut collection, offers a bit of fanfare without the fluff. Kim, a former performer, is inspired by a musician's stage attire. The capsule collection is said to be a reinterpretation of everything from the garb of a conductor to that of the artist herself. Concert dress, often regarded as generally austere attire is softened via tie sleeves on a coat and feminized shirt dressing. Kim displays a strong command of comfort and flexibility--thereby utilizing fabrics such as fine silk, organza, cashmere, and stretch leather to perfect her ideal.
A simple color palette of neutrals ( ivory, black, white, and silver) provides straight forward basics, while Day wear begins with separates and well tailored suits. For evening, delicate cocktail dresses and full length gowns. Standouts for day include: a polka-dot wrap dress on tonal greys an reverse panels with pewter satin tie belt; and a white silk charmeuse blouse with 3 layered tonal grey hand cut scallop neckline paired with gathered waist skirt with hand-cut scallop detail.
Standouts for evening: a black silk/wool Conductor coat with tie cuffs, silk/twill asymmetric collar, pleated and twisted silk drape over shoulder paired with black washed silk charmeuse capri pant with tongue-ring enclosure.
