Hello!
A bustling Wednesday night out yielded more than we'd bargained for, as a gentle email reminder came just hours before the start of the 7th Annual BoConcept/Koldesign Holiday Party. Yes, the flagship location of BoConcept, the ubiquitous modern/contemporary furniture design store hosted a Holiday soiree to end ALL soirees--we are so NOT KIDDING. MTV News Producer Matt Paco extended our invite while the official hosts included: Andrew and Sally Brunger, Shaokao and Niki Cheng, Lincoln Palsgrove IV, Patrick McMullan, Patrick McDonald, Louis Sarmeinto, Marie Havens, Zac Profera, and Sam Bolton.
Upon arrival we eyed NYC party boy circuit favorite Lady Bunny on the wheels of steel doing her thing like it was nobody's--excuse us...bunny's business. Less than 3 feet away was a dancer boy gyrating like it was his last dance on top of a counter. There were oodles and oodles of smiling designer couple types, all holding cup fulls of holiday cheer which for some was Cafe Bustela (hot or cold) for others it was some sort of Absolut Vodka and Code Blue concoction. We searched high and low for BoConcept owner ShaoKao Cheng, but instead our first familiar face--that of Fashion journalist and Launch my Line star Mr. Patrick McDonald. The 6 ft+ style icon often referred to as the ultimate dandy was calmly speaking with a longtime friend when we approached and asked how he was doing since appearing on a major BRAVO production. He responded that he was well and simply asked what we thought of his "expert" on the show. We asked would his Launch my Line appearance now lead to a super-sweet Fashion Design career for NYC's favorite dandy, but he could not elaborate at this time--the show is still airing for the season. We're no fools, we may not have gotten a scoop, but we quickly snapped away--after all, who knows what his photo could be worth in the months ahead?
While, we were a little wanting for space we pressed on and found that several lady shooters were working the room. A one Amber De Vos of PMC fame (see photo at left) almost slipped right by us as she managed a few more clicks of Mr. McDonald. Knowing that things were going to get REALLY GOOD, we moved to the far side of the room near the dancer boy, the constantly carousing couple who resembled one of those Dancing with the Stars pairs, and most importantly the BAR. Too tightly packed to move, we found refuge not far from the entrance where we spotted renown fashion publicist Deborah Hughes, The Daily Publisher Louis Sarmiento and finally ShaoKao Cheng himself.
The celebration was fused with a good cause--proceeds from the sale of various holiday goods were to Invisible Children. Holiday Donation gift bags were being made available to attendees courtesy of Mend. Each limited edition bag was filled with Kol bath and body products as well as Invisible Children media and merchandise.
In all a great night, huge crowd, LOTS of Holiday cheer and what else? a photo booth offering professional portraits from photographer Jeffrey Prehn!
HO! HO! HO!
