Hi!
It hasn't been too long since we've heard from New York based artist Amanda Dolan, in fact it was last Spring that she showed at Soho's Ward Nasse Gallery. This past Saturday evening, March 7, her latest show, "Heart Attack", was celebrated with warm and colorful opening reception. Much like the first show, paintings began to be snapped up IMMEDIATELY--2 sold within minutes of our arrival.
Ms. Dolan's latest, featuring give or take 55 works, was decidedly more affordable if not accessible for viewers both in price
and size. Unlike the large scale works we'd become accustomed to previously, many of the pieces were 5x7 size or so, several being portraits. Price points for the incredible, perfectly decorative pieces ranged from $85 to $800, not a traditional caveat of art review but we could not resist the practicality factor. Ms. Dolan enthusiastically described the difference in "Heart Attack" from her previous Call Me Crazy, "My last show was super serious and dark and concentrated, and I love doing that stuff but you know times are real tough for people right now, and I want to do something light hearted and fun and free so I went completely opposite and and that is how I came up with heart attack. It's an attack of love and hearts and each painting has a heart on it, and its just concentrated on friendship, joy, relationships--a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down, and that's what I was trying to achieve with it."
True to form the exhibit is a combination of portraits and abstracts for which the artist is known for. Current works are titled with names such as Pinky, Rainy, Bright, or Blue Jean Baby, Strawberry Fields, and Frenchie Rainbow. The shapes, colors, layers whatever, triggers your mood. From color drips to more detailed, intricate pieces, the artist finds ways to incorporate the emotions you feel from relaxation, to determination.
"Heart Attack" is a pure delight for the viewer and a real steal for the impending art buyer, novice or experienced. "Heart Attack" will run now through March 31st, see it.
