Hey There!
Last night's soiree to celebrate the opening of the two day old, or something like that, Aspen Social Club and Nightlife Impresario Steve Lewis' arrival to Blackbook Magazine, was nothing short of historical. Pay attention kiddies, you will only witness "history" every so often, and without a point of reference you will NOT even know that history is "what" has occurred. The exquisite newly constructed space presented by longtime club owner Greg Brier, and designed by Steve Lewis served as the perfect backdrop for the ultimate ROCK PARTY.
Upon entry, Mr. Lewis now famed for Good Night Mr. Lewis was seen schmoozing with a circle of revelers, fans, etc. to the immediate right of the huge Blackbook November Issue display (see photo at left). While there was no apparent open bar (we don't drink anymore) dark haired girls, with the aid of what normally would be bar backs or runners served neat platters of fried goodness like corn fritters, polenta sticks, and we believe we spotted chicken quesadillas some where. The crowd ranged from "been there done that"*** to... "is someone taking my picture?" Guys were grunge rocker, artsy types and girls were....well, the ones that LOVE grunge rocker, artsy types. Notably we HEARD Deborah Harry had been there, and we SAW Kelly Choi from NYCTV--that was good enough for us--check the other NYC blogs (Guest of a Guest) later today for more.
So what was the historical part? Seeing DJ Marky Ramone of "the" Ramones spin alongside longtime Brit DJ/Producer Tommy James and hearing The Seed (Cody Chesnutt) President Gas (Psychedelic Furs), All Day and All of the Night (The Kinks), etc. HOT! Mainly the history lies in LONGEVITY--seeing the successful progression of our dear friend Mr. Lewis go from Club Manager, to Club Owner, to renowned Nightclub/Restaurant Designer, to Nightlife Blogger, to giving on camera interviews to Black Book's own BBTV (?) all while forever being a BIG LEAGUE party promoter... is simply uncanny!
So, was it a GOOD night Mr. Lewis? it certainly was!
***-been there done that refers to MAJOR longtime NYC scenesters of the over 40 variety..they know who they are
