Hello my gorgeous!
Trotted off to see Steinunn’s Spring 2009 installation at the Katie
Murphy Amphitheater at FIT Friday afternoon and oh my, she has a definitive
view for spring. Her inspiration was a combination of studying Ljotipollur, a
volcanic crater in her native Iceland;
The vibrant red walls, the colors of the ash-fall, the contrast between light
and dark gave her the palette which she worked on. The musings of Emily
Dickinson in her poem, “The Reticent Volcano” added spice to the collection and
its name.
Combine Marlene Dietrich’s cool, slinky sinuous form and chicness
of Audrey Hepburn and you have, in a nutshell her vision of spring. The silhouette
highlights the body from all angles. Day and night looks have arresting
details; corded and twisted ropes that hang from hems and necklines, looped
ruffles flow down the lengths of skirts and dresses, or gather along the sides
of skirt for a little extra something.
More later!
Bisou, bisou!
