Music has "Made" My Fashion Week!
New York's Fall/Winter 2008 Men's and Women's
Collections, have kicked off to a great start!!! This season I decided to write
about the music sampling I have observed at the various shows. From the 9: 00 am Nautica show on February 1st, to the closing "Sean Jean"
show at 6:00 pm on the 8th, I have been tracking and studying the music
samplings and making associations with the models, the collection and, of
course, the designers themselves!!!
For example, Tracy Reese's music mix blended a harmonious orchestra selection complete with violins, sampled with the James Brown soul classic, "This Is a Man's World, but it would mean nothing without a woman or a girl". As her line was referred to by her as "windblown" and "natural", her clothes were labeled with such colors as "grass", and "oatmeal". At the Diane Von Furstenberg, the music master mixed a blend of old school hip hop classics like, "Pump Up The Jam", "Misbehaving", along with a more modern, "Candyman" by Christina Aguilera, while the clothing line was complete with many charcoal, camels, and plum colors metalics, herringbones, mohairs, knits, and tweeds.
I simply adored the "R. Scott French" show, not only because the male models were stunning, but because his clothes were classy with a flair, and the goody bag came complete with a CD by Kevin Michael, featuring the song, "We All Want The Same Thing", which was also featured during the sfilata on the runway!!! Lastly, and to no great surprise, the outrageous "Betsey Johnson" known for doing her infamous cartwheel down the runway, of course played good ole' Punk Rock and Roll, such as Blondie, "Life During Wartime", by the Talking Heads, The Ramones' "Blitzkrieg Bop", and The Beatles, mixed with her fun loving, colorful collection complete with hot pink women's panties in the goody bags. Now that's fashion!!!
