Hello!
Sometimes there is a backlog of interesting things to attend and as I adhere to a CRAZY, CRAZY schedule it becomes hard to squeeze things in. However, can I just tell you I am glad I squeezed in the 1 year Anniversary of Edge NY NOHO *** last night. After months of receiving email invites from this very establishment, I decided to trek on over to this celebratory event. Once I arrived I found that this is not just any store, but a collection of boutique vendors all under one roof (think vast improvement on the concept outdoor flea market), successfully done with style and taste.
The anniversary celebration was complete with a DJ and sponsored rum bar...however, make no mistake, the evening was all about fashion! As I made my rounds I found a few notable designers: Johanna Martinez, Lois Eastlund, and Ayazakura (jewelry). My first clothing stop was at Johanna Martinez who had simple, flattering Fall/Winter pieces --Gilda a 3/4 sleeve tunic, Mimi a sleeveless turtleneck, both blends of Lurex, wool, and silk available in gold flex, black or silver, and the Flamenco Dress -- a dress in grey, plum or black that perfectly hits every curve. I was in love!...great pieces and a great designer who incidentally was wearing her Flamenco Dress in black.
My next find was at Lois Eastlund who had quite a colorful display of amazing mini-skirts. An East Village based designer, Ms. Eastlund has cornered the market in one of a kind knits, prints and again...MINIS. An immediate draw was the zebra print mini with a zip front and beautiful detailed pockets, you do not have to be an East Village girl to wear this... just someone with great taste and love of a superior print. There are similar mini's in black and other colors, as well as dresses.
In between I found time to peruse a few pieces of jewelry and was most impressed with the spiritual jewelry of Ayazakura who offers hand made silver and gold rings, and bracelets. Not only were the pieces uniquely delicate, but the whole process of their jewelry making doesn't have to remain a secret...yes, they offer classes on the topic of jewelry making.
Before long it was time to depart -- I could have spent hours at Edge NY Noho -- there were dozens more boutiques. This is one spot whose site I am bookmarking in my favorites...will let you know when my next visit will be.....
***- Edge NY NOHO, "the" funkiest department store of the 21st century. Edge is actually a hot spot collection of various boutiques under one roof.
