Keri Hilson, Nick Jonas, Wendy Williams Support GMHC AIDS Walk NY

Another SUCCESSFUL year the AIDS Walk for GMHC, This year'swalk featured attending celebs Keri Hilson,Nick Jonas, and Wendy Williams on Sunday, May 20th.  More than 50,000 participants are embarked on a 10k walk through central park and around the joining neighborhoods to help stomp out AIDS. The walk raised over $6 Million for the charity.  The landmark event benefits GMHC and 41 other local AIDS service organizations who provide food, housing, medical care, and much more to people living with HIV/AIDS, as well as vital prevention work that reaches hundreds of thousands throughout the tri-state area. On the 1s and 2s was celeb DJ Duane Harriott who kept the multitudes going.

 

Since 1986, AIDS Walk New York has raised more than $122 million for HIV programs and services in the tri-state area, and has grown into the largest AIDS fundraising event in the world.  In 2011 alone, 45,000 participants, many of whom were members of more than 3,000 corporate and community teams, raised over $6.2 million for GMHC and 50 other tri-state area AIDS service organizations.

Seven years ago, when Scott Schuman started uploading pictures he’d taken of New Yorkers who caught his eye to his blog The Sartorialist, there was nothing quite like it. Now the sidewalk sees more flash than a Prada show, and any art student with an iPhone can snap his way to blogging fame. GQ Contributor Alex Pappademas trails the king of street style from Manhattan to Milan and gets the secrets to staying in the picture.  I’ve pulled some quotes below:

Schuman on magazines:

“It shocks me when young kids still say, ‘I want to do a magazine,’ ” he says. “Really? Do you want to do a magazine because you want to be an editor—what you think that life is, that romance—or do you want to communicate? Because if you want to communicate, why the fuck would you put all those obstacles in your path and have to print pages, as opposed to going right on the Internet and actually communicating?”

Stripped 'The Play' Holds Opening Reception

After three weeks of sold-out preview performances, "Stripped The Play” opened at Culture Club on Friday, May 18th.  Guests in attendance were treated to signature MEDEA vodka cocktails and sushi by PJ Bricks before the show. The off-Broadway play, written by Steve Stanulis and Geoffrey Cantor and produced by Marek Schwedt, delves into the lives of four male strippers and combines a live male revue with a heartfelt theatrical performance.  The visually enticing show directed by Geoffrey Cantor offers audiences an unflinching look at the inner workings of the male exotic dancer’s mind and their unconventional lives. Each character bares his soul to the audience before baring it all.  

The stars of "Stripped The Play" include Steve Stanulis as “Brock Hammer", Michael Turner as “Black Mamba”, Geoffrey Cantor as “Steve Savage”, Brian Carpenter as “Wild Wayne” and Jonathan Florez as “The Latin Prince.”

Electrolux Host Sean Penn 'Carnival in Cannes' Gala Dinner

On Friday, May 18th Electrolux and Michelin starred partner Chef Bruno Oger bring culinary excellence to gala fundraiser for Haiti.

 

Sean Penn, Giorgio Armani, Petra Nemcova, and guests sat down to a dinner in the Electrolux Agora Pavilion that showcased Bruno Oger’s award-winning approach to cuisine.

 

“This evening brings together influential people from the world of entertainment that expect the highest possible standards.” says Frederique Pirenne, Electrolux PR Director Europe. “By installing the same Electrolux appliances in the Agora Pavilion as are used in their professional kitchens on a daily basis, our partner chefs can create culinary masterpieces worthy of the occasion with confidence.”

 

The gala fund raising event was held in the Electrolux Agora and raised money for Penn's J/P Haitian Relief Organization (J/P HRO), Artists for Peace and Justice and Nemcova's Happy Hearts Fund.

As the supplier of choice to 50% of Europe’s Michelin starred restaurants, Electrolux and their partner chefs bring gastronomic flair to official events for this year’s Film Festival de Cannes from the Electrolux Agora Pavilion.

Last night luminaries from the worlds of fashion, entertainment, business, society, politics and the arts convened at Cipriani 42^nd Street for El Museo Del Barrio’s 19^th Annual Gala, a glamorous fundraising evening benefitting New York’s leading Latino cultural institution. Donning of his gowns, actress Julianna Margulies presentedcelebrated fashion designer Narciso Rodriguez with an award for artistic achievement to honor his career and longtime patronage to El Museo del Barrio. In addition, fashion designer Carolina Herrera bestowed Yaz Hernández with a trustee leadership award for her generosity, exemplary years of service and influential work on the museum’s Executive Committee. 

Ruben and Isabel Toledo presented Bacardi U.S.A., Inc. with the 2012 Corporate Excellence in Arts Award. After dinner a surprise birthday cake was brought out to celebrate the company’s 150^th anniversary of its founding in Santiago de Cuba. This spectacular event was chaired by Nina Garcia, Alex González and Sarah G. Wolfe and honorary chair Estrellita Brodsky.
